Invisalign is a method of straightening teeth that uses multiple sets of clear plastic “aligners,” also sometimes called “trays.” These trays look sort of like a retainer or a mouthguard for nighttime teeth grinding. Each tray is custom-built based on scans of your teeth, and is meant to move them by about 0.2mm over a period of about two weeks.
By switching through multiple sets of Invisalign aligner trays, you can slowly reposition your teeth, improve the appearance of your smile, and correct bite problems including underbites, overbites, and crossbites. And unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is invisible when worn, removable for eating and brushing, and causes less overall discomfort throughout the treatment process.
On average, treatment with Invisalign takes about 12 months, though this will differ for each patient. Those with minor orthodontic issues may be able to correct them in six months, while patients with more significant tooth and bite alignment issues may require treatment for 18+ months.
Invisalign is one of the most popular ways for both teenagers and adults to straighten their smiles. Wondering what makes it such a great choice for orthodontic treatment? Here are just a few of the biggest Invisalign benefits:
Invisalign is an appropriate treatment for most teenagers and adults who have minor-to-moderate orthodontic issues, including:
Wondering what your daily life will look like if you choose to get Invisalign? While every smile journey is a bit different, we can give you a sneak peek of what to expect from your orthodontic treatment at Max Dental Studio:
First, you’ll meet with Dr. Pithan. She will conduct a comprehensive oral exam, complete with X-rays and digital images of your teeth and jaws. This helps him understand the extent of your orthodontic issues and determines whether or not you’re a good candidate for Invisalign treatment at Max Dental Studio.
If you’re a good candidate for treatment, Dr. Nunes will use a hand-held scanning tool to create a detailed 3D image of your smile. This will be used to create a detailed “smile preview,” and to create your Invisalign treatment plan. Once your scan is finished, Dr. Pithan will collaborate with Invisalign to create your set of aligner trays.
At your next appointment, Dr. Pithan will place attachments and give you your first 6-8 sets of Invisalign trays, as well as instructions on how to wear them and how to care for them. To keep your treatment on track, you’ll need to wear your aligners for 22 hours per day. Ideally, you should only take them out to eat and to brush and floss your teeth.
Each set of aligners will typically be worn for between 1-2 weeks, and you should make sure you follow Dr. Pithan’s’ specific instructions to stay on track. You will need to visit our office every 10-12 weeks for a quick checkup and to get the next series of aligners that you’ll need to continue straightening your smile. These checkups are quick and convenient to ensure that Invisalign treatment doesn’t get in the way of your active lifestyle.
You’ll start noticing results within 2-3 months, and the average treatment time for Invisalign is about a year. Once Dr. Pithan confirms that your teeth have reached their ideal alignment, he will provide you with a set of retainers to wear. These are critical for keeping your teeth from moving back toward their original positions once your Invisalign treatment is over.
